- From 2008 to 2011 there was only one class. (In 2010 and 2011 there was also a duo class).
- From 2013 the Amundsen Race is organized by JFSHK.
- From 2013, Amundsen has competed in two classes, a 12-dog Open class and 8-dog Restricted class. Both classes run the same route.
- From 2022, a new distance (180 km) AR180 a 8-dog limited class was introduced.
- From 2025 a new distance (250 km) AR250 a 12-dog Open class and 8-dog Restricted class was introduced.
